"Since early infancy, Reece developed digestion issues, which often led to hours of endless crying spells. Her one relief: You are my Sunshine (The hound and the fox version.) Her symptoms progressed and only worsened when table food was introduced. After repetitive expressed concerns, bloodwork was ordered on her at 18 months old. She was the most irritable, temperamental, and fatigued child we had ever seen. Her hair was brittle and wiry, her nails were flaky, and her belly was constantly swollen. The bloodwork included a Celiac screening, which among all other normal results, came back mildly positive. Her repeat bloodwork resulted ten times higher than her initial results. We were told that it was almost certain that she had Celiac Disease, but small intestine biopsies were needed to confirm diagnosis. We switched her diet immediately after her biopsies resulted positive for damage. Our home then became a completely gluten free environment that was safe for her. In a matter of four weeks, Reece was a different child. Her bubbly and happy personality that we only merely caught glimpses of, began to shine through. Her pot belly had sunken flat, and her hair started to grow back to beautiful ringlets. She has learned to be a voice and advocate for herself in order to stay safe. She was fortunate to be diagnosed at a very early age, not only making the transition to a gluten free lifestyle easier, but also saving her years of pain, tests, procedures, and the potential development of other serious health conditions."
